Updates

July-29-2016

One of my Corsair Vegeance DIM’s bit the dust, I was getting unusual game crashes after I installed the 1070, I thought it was a faulty GPU but I did a memory test and discovered the culprit…Looks like I’m down 8GB and now relying on 24GB of RAM…

July-28-2016

I bit the bullet and found myself at Canada Computers looking at a GTX 1080…but I ended up settling for a GTX 1070 instead as I heard the 1080 would be technically overkill for my needs, plus the price tag is about 40% more. On hindsight, I should have probably just gone for the 1080 but I figured I’d just go for the following release instead, perhaps the 1090 when it comes out?

Comments

This will be my new pride and joy, anybody who knows me knows that I carry my laptop wherever I go, I cannot part with it and with this power behemoth I’ll be happy wherever life’s journey brings me for the next decade. Completely stoked with the Xeon CPU and Quadro GPU, this means productivity on the go, animation, video and photo editing will not be a problem. Heck 4K video editing to my knowledge will be a breeze.

Updates

July-08-2016

It’s here! It came in conjunction with my M.2. trays that I ordered. Got it set up and running this evening. Unforunately it still has the stock single 8GB RAM DIMM and right off the bat, I’m noticing a performance bottle neck when running my productivity software. I’ll need to becareful to not over-populate my lappy with Chrome tabs and Adobe Suite…Did have a chance to play with the GPU and managed to pull off some decent FPS on Unigine Heaven with full max settings clocking in at just under 23 FPS at 1080p with Anti-Aliasing + Tessellation and everything maxed. With Tessellation off, I’m pulling over 38 FPS even with everything else maxed. Not too bad….I also happened to pull the trigger and ordered 64 GB (4x2x16GB) RAM kit, should be here for Monday….stoked once again.

July-13-2016

Got my 64GB RAM upgrade kits today courtesy of BHPhoto and Video – Cost $228 USD ($347 CAD – Including taxes, and misc. fees) – installed all 4 dimms and noticed my PC wouldn’t event POST. Thought I got the wrong dimms and or there’s something up with the BIO’s – so I swapped everything out for the factory 8GB and then it POSTed – noticed there’s an option in the BIOS for hardware detection security – so I switched that over to disabled and then installed 1 dim and tested it and it worked. So I went ahead and installed all 64GB and well the rest is history. I’m a happy camper. Currently working on a system review for this build and will include a link when it’s up.
